I interviewed Michael “DJ Mike” Calise. He has been in the industry as an entrepreneur, since 1979 and has been a D.J. since 1979, brand name of New York City Sounds.
He is a Defensive driving instructor, CPR instructor, First Aide instructor, Motorcycle instructor and a Boating Safety instructor I can go on and on. He’s a man of different talents. I asked him… How do you find the time to do all of those jobs? He stated, People – They are my motivation in being an instructor of the many titles I hold above. People need training in all that they do in life. I happen to be one of those people who have all those capabilities. I am constantly busy. I love standing in front of a class or an audience and I know, after each class, everyone left feeling like they accomplished something. I’m in demand and train quite often, I love what I do.
Michael Calise currently work for the NYPD. He was 29 years old when he joined NYPD After working many years of service, as a Supervisor of Mechanics, he is finally looking forward to retirement. He is currently looking for space to open up his own company as an instructor for the many job titles he possess above. He wants to build his training business and D.J. entertainment business. With all that he does, he still have time to work on a show or event that comes up here or there. If I have time to do it. Most likely I would do it, he said.
Michael Calise stated; I was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Ozone Park in Queens, N.Y. I was twenty-seven years old when I realized I wanted to get into the dj business. I started to DJ when records were played on 1200’s Tecnics Turntables… Now, everything is computerized. Wow! Throughout my life, I realized, I love working for an audience. That’s when I started attaining my different instructor licenses. I love being a DJ. I love playing my music in front of a crowd. I love teaching in front of a crowd. I truly have the best of both worlds.
