Big Daddy Sean Mckee
Sean “Big Daddy” McKee
Sean McKee,  better known as “Big Daddy”  in the DJ world,  has been in the Entertainment business for 43 years and he has been a DJ  for 22 years.  He is one of a  diversed group  of individuals, who happens to be lucky enough to do a seminar at the  phenomenal DJ Convention which is held once a year  in Atlantic City.   During the middle of the month of August,  the Trump Taj Mahal prepares itself for a sleuth of individuals travelling far and wide for a weekend of entertainment, which is given by the DJ Convention.  “Big Daddy” would dance his way into your hearts.     He would say…    I’m a full time D.J.   I’ve been in the entertainment business as a D.J.  for 43 years.   I love  “what I do”.   I love motivating people to  have fun.   I was given a  gift about 22 years ago.  That was when I started doing  weddings.    Whatever I would tell them to do, they would listen.  As I began doing more weddings,   I  began  working harder   on my entertainment skills each and every day.    I became one of the best DJ’s out there.
Sean “Big Daddy”  McKee,   actually started doing weddings at the age of sixteen (16).  He  was a singer for a band  and  he  was  a  D.J.  during the  night  in night clubs.    Then one day,  around 22 years ago,   something changed in his life.  “Big Daddy”   said –  he  wanted  to   celebrate  life  with  everyone else.
He  was born in Stamford Connecticut and he was  raised in Ridgefield Connecticut.   “Big Daddy”  said….   I attended all schools in Ridgefield Connecticut from Puberty, pre-school and on. .   I remember, it was In 2nd grade, when I began playing the  trumpet.  I’ve  played  the trumpet  all through high school.  By the time  I  was graduating from High School,  I  became the   “All-State Trumpet Player” and the   “All East Coast Jazz Trumpet Player”.   During this time,  I knew,  this is what I wanted to do with my life.  I wanted  to play the trumpet.  When I told my dad  what I wanted to do,  that’s  when I found out  that my dad had cancer.  My dad was diagnosed with Cancer in 1973.  They didn’t  think he was going to make it to my graduation,  but he did.  My dad  passed away in 1974.   I’m so grateful  he got  the chance to see me graduate from High School.
After  I  graduated  from High School, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.   So,   I  decided to be in a band.  After my dad  passed  away  in 1974,   my  mom  remarried.   My mom  and my  stepdad  spent  22  glorious  years  together  until  he passed away in 1996.   I am blessed to  be  where  I  am  right  now.  “ I’ve   survived  cancer  twice.”   I went through  14  months  of chemotherapy   and  I’ve never  missed  an  event  since being diagnosed.   I  was  at  my  youngest  son’s  Wedding   in  August,  2  years ago  and  during  that  time,  I  was  going  through  Chemotherapy.   I’m just full of  life.   Cancer truly gives you a different approach to life.  That’s what life is all about.  With what’s  going on in the world  today,  I must say….  life is good.“Big Daddy” then said…  I’ve  been working at the DJ convention for the past 18 years and I’ve  been doing seminars for the past 14 yearsI won DJ of the year in 2007,  (you only have to win DJ of the year once and you would be recognized as a winner forever)  and  I was a judge this year.   I’m here to share my knowledge about being a DJ during the first night of  the convention and  I’m  also –  what is known  as  the  “Night Closer”  for the first night.    That’s my job  for the first night.   Are you working on a new project?  A project to me are weddings .  Each wedding is a new project.  Everyone of them are different.  I do   6 – 7  new projects (events ) a week.   Whether it be weddings or anything else.  “I Love What I Do.”You’ve beaten cancer twice.  What have you been doing different from what you have been doing before?  I’ve been living life better.  I have two sons who are married to two of the most beautiful women in the world.  My sons,  and my sons wives,  are my life.  They are my world.  They are my reason I’m  living.  Every day is an adventure.  Every day,  as you put your feet on the ground, you face forward and you never look back.  I’m trying to eat healthier and I am pretty much doing my thing.

I’m not married and  I’m not involved with anyone at this time.  They can’t put up with my schedule.  My eldest son name is Desmond and his wifes name is Shannon.  Desmond just turned 30.  They are expecting their first child in January.  January the 10th, 2015.  My second son name is Casey and his wifes name is Stefanie.  They are also expecting their first child nect year in March.

Whats your expectation in life?

I really don’t have any expectations in life.  For me….  I just want to make sure that everyone around me, is the happiest they can possibly be.  My brides, grooms, Bah mitzvah or whatever it may be,  I  am doing their night.  They are not only my clients but they are also my family.  That’s the way I do events.  I just want to make sure that they are having the most amazing day of their life.  I want everyone around me to be the happiest they can possibly be.  If they are going through some stuff, they know who to call.

Who inspires you the most?

There‘s many people who inspire me.  It’s not just one person.    I have 3,000 people on facebook,  and I know each and everyone of them personallyThey  inspires me the most.    I meet  Inspiring people everyday.   The people at the DJ Convention inspires me.   The person who runs the DJ Convention inspires me.   He is  a well known personality in the global entertainment business .  Other gentlemen’s  by the names  of Jorge Lopez, Randy Bartlett, (just to name a few), inspires me.     I am inspired by  my 2 boys and  their wives, whom I consider family.   .  I love people.   But, I know,  there’s one  person who loves me more.   I’m their biggest fan… As I said earlier,   I’m a two times cancer survivor, and I know he is not through with me yet.

Life is a part-time job.  You have to enjoy every minute and every second of it while you  are here.  I absolutely love what I do.  I can make someone smile and make them forget their problems for a couple of hours.  This is a Wonderful Life.  A Wonderful Life!  I am “Big Daddy”.  And “Big Daddy” is here to motivate you.  I am “Big Daddy”, and “Big Daddy” Loves You!

And that he is… I had a great time with him at the DJ Convention. I love the way he spoke about his sons and the wives of his sons. He is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his grandkids who will be here next year, just months apart from eachother. And I know, he loves what he is doing. Motivating people to participate at a party  comes  easy to  him. He always bringing a smile to your face when you are greeted by him. You can always feel the aura of his presence (which is filled with nothing but positive energy) whenever he is around you. When he is dancing with you,  you find yourself dancing back. During  an   event, He would say… “Smile As Loud As You Can” and you find yourself doing that. “He’s like “The Pide Piper” of motivation and empowerment. You will follow him everywhere. I was a stranger to him and yet, he treated me like family the moment he introduced himself to me. He’s “Big Daddy”; A man full of life and love.. He is “Big Daddy”.  He would say at the end of every event….      “Big Daddy Loves You!”
